It was an easy drive to Billings from Livingston although it rained on and off, and the right lane on I-90 was closed on and off as well due to construction. It was wonderful to see the Yellowstone River to our left and then to our right as we went up and down the mountains. Oh how I wished we had made plans to visit Yellowstone! Big sigh!
We are staying in another really nice Good Sam park, Billings RV Trailer Park. It is in the "industrial area" of Billings but so far it is quiet. No trains yet, but if there isn't one, I don't know if I'll be able to sleep! LOL! We have gotten to used to the sounds of trains at all hours of the night!
We went to Dehler Stadium this evening even though it was raining! The local Billings Mustangs were playing the Orem Owlz and we were told the game would be starting on time because the weather wasn't bad enough to stop the game. We have not been to a ballgame in a while so we were excited to see the local stadium. It is a small stadium (2575 occupancy) and it is located in the "city" of Billings! There is no designated paid parking. You just have to drive around the block and find a place. Lucky for us we saw a fan getting out of his car at an orthopedic office and we asked him where to park. He told us "this was the best place in town" and that "not a lot of folks have figured it out"! I think it took us 20 minutes to find that man and that spot!
The stadium is quite new, built in 2008. It sits below a ridge that houses the Billings Airport, where the planes and helicopters take off during the game. Because it was raining and there was lightning in the distance, I heard the sound of "a train" and thought for sure a tornado was headed our way! Turns out, it was a jet! Crazy!
Although the weather wasn't that bad for the game to be delayed from the get-go, the game was rain delayed in the second inning. The game started at 7:05 p.m., delayed at 7:35 p.m., and didn't restart until 9:00 p.m. We were sitting in the stadium in 66 degree weather, wet, chilly, and it was the start of the third inning at 9:13 p.m. I asked Thom how long we were going to stay and he said, "9:30"! LOL! Another crazy game where we were not there for the opening pitch and we left before the seventh inning ice cream tradition!
We have to get the RV to Rocky Mountain Freightliner by 8:00 a.m. tomorrow so we can get the generator serviced. As soon as we get the RV back, we will hit the road and head for Sturgis, South Dakota. We will be there for two nights and then we'll be heading to Mitchell, South Dakota for one night, and then on to Forest City, Iowa, where we will be there for the Grand National Rally (GNR) for five nights! After the GNR, we will head to Minnesota!!! Yes, we are beginning to do a countdown!
Photos to follow soon!
Until next blog ...
Be sure to see the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD.
