I FORGOT TO MENTION …
As I was folding laundry this evening, I realized I
haven’t mentioned an incident that happened to our RV while in Little Rock.
When we first arrived in Little Rock and while
setting up the RV, when I put the passenger side slide out, I heard something
“odd” but I looked at the end of each of the slides and could not find anything
getting crushed by the slide, which has happened in the past! I didn’t think
anything of it but did mention this to Thom to see if he “heard” something
outside the RV, which he didn’t.
A few days later, while getting the RV ready to travel, I was taking my
morning vitamins when I noticed an area on the passenger slide looked
“different”. I stared at the “trim” for a few seconds and realized the “trim”
was missing! Oh man, that was the sound I heard! I showed Thom and he, as I,
hadn’t noticed this before. He went outside, got the ladder out and looked
under the slide cover and lo and behold there was the “trim”!
You can see at the top of photo where there is trim and then you can see screws in wood. An 8' piece of trim came off!
My husband, a/k/a McGyver, constructed a very long
pole by putting brooms and extension sticks together to make a javelin type
contraption, which he tried to push the piece of trim from one end of the slide to the
other. Unfortunately, this piece of trim was literally in the middle under the
slide cover! It was quite a lot of work for Thom going up and down the ladder,
moving the ladder from one end to the other, and constantly trying to dislodge
the now wet trim, which had embedded itself on top of the slide.
In the end, he used a spatula from the grill, to be
used as a scraper, and then wrapped duct tape around it with the sticky side up
so he could get a grasp of the wood trim. He made a magnet for wood, kind of.
Finally, for at least an hour to an hour and a half, Thom was able to get the
trim, which we now have in the basement of the RV, drying out! As time was of the essence, no photos were taken.
Now, let’s fast forward to today, May 20. This evening
we are getting ready to pull up stakes in the morning, headed for Kansas, and
while I am in the bedroom hanging up clothes I noticed my side of the “Sleep
Number” bed is collapsed. I refilled the bed and within seconds it was losing
air. I did this a few times and decided it was time to tell Thom the bad news!
We took the bed apart and could hear a leak somewhere
but we could not find it. My side of the Sleep Number bed was supposedly fully
inflated but not as firm as Thom’s side. We went under the bed again and
checked the motor. Sure enough, the outlet nozzle on the air pump is broken!
The little gray thing to the left is broken.
Since tomorrow is a longer than usual travel day for
us, we will take advantage of the Memorial Day sales in Wellington, Kansas and
find a new mattress, but not a Sleep Number. We have had problems with this
since the get-go but it always resolved itself or Winnebago has fixed it!
We truly believe these two pieces are broken because
of the absolutely horrible road conditions in Mississippi and Louisiana!
UPDATE: We made it to Wellington, Kansas in time to head to Wichita to get a new mattress. The new one will be delivered tomorrow (Friday, May 22)!
I would also like to add, there has been a lack of wildlife on this trip thus far, not even a deer until this evening, and it's rump was the only thing visible as it ran into the woods! We saw two buffalo today but they were in a fence so they don't count! We have seen a lot of birds, which, depending on what kind of bird it is, can be pretty boring. We did see two wild turkeys, but we can see them in Florida all the time.
As mentioned, we are in Wellington, Kansas, which has a "Wheat Festival", so I wonder if the deer are interested in eating wheat! I will keep an eye out!
Until next blog ...
