Little Rock, Arkansas - Day 3

May 18, 2015

For two people who were not going to do anything today, we ended up going out this afternoon to walk across the Arkansas River via the walking bridge and then visited the William J. Clinton Presidential Library after all!

The river is running quite fast and there are many whirlpools just under the bridge and just past the bridge. We saw a snake swimming in the river, as well as a turtle. We hope the turtle made it to shore, the snake not so thrilled that it did!

The artist I took a photo of from the Jeep yesterday I had the opportunity to actually talk to today.  She does volunteer artwork to bring awareness to the fact that all drains go into the Arkansas Rriver. She is from Fayetteville and has done quite a lot of artistry in the state of Arkansas. I have an updated photo from today of yesterday's photo I posted.

There is a dinosaur exhibit at the Presidential Library until October. There are not that many exhibits but the ones they do have are quite impressive. I could envision my son Philip rattling off information on each of the species!

The library in general was interesting, informative. There is a short film narrated by Bill Clinton about his career as one of the youngest governors in the United States and then the youngest ex-governor in the United States. He also spoke about his love of playing the saxophone and there are many exhibits of saxophones given to him during his presidency. After watching his video presentation and what he had to say about helping people get jobs, uniting all people, it made me think of where we are now with the current administration and how he (Obama) has truly destroyed much of what Bill Clinton set out to change. I also wondered out loud what the Obama Presidential Library will consist of. What his video presentation will be. I can't even fathom the thought of ever entering that library, ever! One thing is for sure, there will be no mention of how grateful Obama is of our military or police officers, as there is in the Clinton Library. Enough said.

After the library tour we took a ride on a downtown streetcar. We had the best conductor who let Thom be the "conductor" and switch the electrical boom on the streetcar before we left! It was a 49-minute tour and it was good to see things we might not have if we hadn't taken it.

So for a day of doing nothing, here's photos of what doing nothing looks like, Coste style!

The area of the campground we have been parked at for the past 3 days, along with our neighbors! You can see the walking bridge, the Arkansas River, and the Clinton Presidential Library.

The William J. Clinton Presidential Library

The walkway across the river is quite nice and a great location from the RV park, secured by a gate with a code given to the RV park customers.

As you can see, the barges and tug boats are at a standstill until the river speed slows down a bit. Pulaski County, where we are located, was on a flash flood watch last night but thank goodness it did not include the Arkansas River!

The view to the north of the walking bridge shows many more barges and scenic paddle boats shut down. The submarine (which I have a photo of below) is a part of a museum and is permanent.

I can't imagine the amount of money being lost every day that the river runs like crazy!

Lantana, which is what we have in our yard, but ours is yellow. I need to get some this color and the colors below!

When I get back to Ocala, I will be checking on this lantana for our yard!

You can see the flooding where there is a river walk, but closed for the moment. We had no idea there was this much rain before we got here!

Something "yellow" caught my eye and I had to zoom way in and wasn't even sure I got it, but it was a bird!

"Drains to River" is the name of her piece, which is painted just above a road drain.

A time capsule to be opened in 2104! I wonder what is in the capsule!

One of the few dinosaurs on display at the library.

A view of the walking bridge from the library.

President Clinton's limousine.

A dinosaur egg - Thom tried to convince me it was a garbage can! I asked the tour guide and she just smiled and shook her head "no"!

The Cabinet Room - replica.

I did sit in the President's seat (Thom has video).

The Oval Office with President Clinton's personal items.

Another view of the Oval Office. I found it to be really pretty, interesting, and comfortable.

Another dinosaur egg garbage can (NOT)!

You can't open any of the Blue Books, and there are hundreds!

You can see just a few of the many cabinets holding the Blue Books.

This bike, along with many of the following photos are gifts given to the Clinton's.

A gift for their cat "Socks".

What a typical Clinton dinner table looked like.

Yes, they took the silverware, dishes, and glassware, not to mention the table linens. I wonder how much Obama will take with him! Oops, I spoke aloud again!

These lovely rugs adorn the library. Now, I would like to have one of these!

How cute, that someone had these bowls made for their cat.

This saxophone is actually a piece of art that a lady in Indiana made for the President.

Time to explore Little Rock via the streetcar!

A statue near the Butler Memorial Trail, one of many bike trails in Little Rock.

The "conductor" instructing the "conductor-of-the-moment" how to switch the electrical boom on the streetcar!

Our Streetcar

Another piece of art on the side of the road in downtown Little Rock. I love photographing statues like this.

The original Capital Building, now the Old State House Museum. Construction started in 1833 and became a museum in 1947.

To be honest, when I took my original photo of the river and mentioned the submarine previously, I had no idea there was a submarine in the river! When I saw this from the streetcar, I had no idea I had already photographed it! LOL!

Benihana Restaurant entrance at the Wyndham Riverfront!

Our 49-minute streetcar journey is over!

This statue is located near the river walk area, where the walkway is flooded. Again, I had to zoom in to get it.

A red robin with something!

Tomorrow we head for Cave Springs, Arkansas for a few days!

Until next blog ...
