Declo, Idaho, population 343 in 2010! This is a very small spot on the Idaho map! We are staying in "Valley of the Trees" campground, which is quite lovely and sits along the shores of the Snake River. We will be here for three nights.
The drive here was quite windy with signs along I-84 that actually warn you about dust storms and to not stop on the highway! You could see the dust in the distance where one could imagine what it must be like in a real dust storm! I am pleased, very pleased, that we beat the wind and made it without incident to Declo.
The topography of the area once we left Salt Lake City changed, which is always amazing to see. Leaving the city we had rocky spikes and craggy mountains. Once we got past Ogden, Utah, the spikes and rocks became rolling type mountains and then flat like Kansas once we entered Idaho.
As in our past highway trips from city-to-city, the wildlife here is dead, literally, along the highway! We saw two dead deer on this trip with a dead antelope on our way to Sandy yesterday! Where, oh where, have the antelope gone, the eagles, the antelope, the elk, the bears? We are hoping that our scenic drives we are planning to take the next two days will not disappoint!
Leaving Salt Lake City
Leaving the Ogden area
We are still looking for that rattlesnake for Thom to film!
We were hoping to see some of these hawks, but they were not nesting at the rest area!
Idaho - flat like Kansas!
Our sunset on the Snake River this evening!
